Our bodies are AMAZING organisms. So why do so many of us continue to treat them so poorly?

Is it a lack of knowledge?  I don’t think so, we all know that we should be eating “healthy” foods and “exercising” but even as I write that I realise how boring and mundane that sentence sounds.  Did it inspire you to do what we know we should be doing?  It didn’t inspire me!!!

Even with my recent move to cutting out dairy and gluten (just for now to see what happens) and knowing how extra awesome I feel and how strong and powerful I felt on my bike ride yesterday, that didn’t inspire me.

It hasn’t actually been too bad.  Knowledge is powerful.  The key piece of information that worked for me was learning that gluten and casein (a protein in dairy) are currently the only two nutrients identified by scientists that have been found to attach to the opioid receptors in the brain.  Since then, I’ve been able to cut out my “weakness” for cheese sandwiches.  I’ve had a couple since then AND I ACTUALLY DID NOT ENJOY THEM!!

And I realise now how tired I was getting after consuming them!!!

So in the absence of knowledge what can we do?

I recommend to start with listening to your body.  It will tell you everything you need to know.  It is constantly providing feedback but so often we ignore it because we are too busy being busy.

Keep a food diary.  I know I know, what a chore!!  But hear me out, this is a food diary with a difference.  We’re not counting calories, we’re going to note down what we eat and then how our bodies respond to it.

Ideally your food diary will start to look like this: consumption of whole and real foods – I feel amazing!!!  Consumption of processed junk, caffeine, alcohol, refined sugars – I feel like crap.

Remember to be real, you may get a lift initially but notice when you crash.  Compare that to when you have days of more balanced energy and what you ate on those days.  How did you sleep? How did you wake up?  How did you function?

The point is to reeeeeeeeeally come to the conclusion that Garbage In really does equal Garbage Out.

Over time as we continue to nourish our bodies with whole and real foods more and more our bodies will move more into a state of wellness because we are regenerating healthier cells.  Remember how we are always regenerating new cells?  Well, they can only be as good quality as with the quality of nutrients we provide them.

Apologies for sounding like a broken record but as Zig Ziglar said “Repetition is the mother of learning, the father of action, which makes it the architect of accomplishment.”

So once again what our bodies need are vitamins, minerals, fibre, quality carbohydrates, healthy fats, proteins, amino acids, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.

What our bodies don’t need are unhealthy fats, excess sugar, white flour, excess salt, preservatives, food coloring, processed foods.  Constant consumption of these put pressure on our bodies and prolonged consumption can lead to bigger health issues down the track.  And that track is getting shorter and shorter with a lot of our children developing diseases that once were only diseases of adulthood.

So where do the shakes fit in?  They SUPPORT a good whole food diet.  They fill in the gaps of nutrients that are missing from our food supply. They boost energy almost immediately for a lot of people, if you’re less observant like I was it wasn’t until 3 weeks later I realized I wasn’t yawning while watching my daughters swimming lesson and didn’t feel like I needed to collapse on the couch when I got home.

They are also a fantastic opportunity to boost your fruit and vege intake as well as add some healthy fats into you day.  I like to add a tablespoon of coconut oil or Fix & Foggs Everything Butter.  A quick and simple breakfast, lunch, or dinner option.

But don’t take my word for it. Try it out for yourself, see what happens for you in just 5 days with our low cost trial either at our Lower Hutt Based Smoothie Club or from the comfort of your own home.

Did this help you? If yes please feel free to share on Facebook.
