I hear you asking “what on earth do you mean there is no junk food???”
Well, I’ll finish the sentence for you. There is no junk food – there is only junk and there is only food – another Dr Libby statement.
What falls under the category of “junk”? Well that would be all the stuff that doesn’t serve us such as unhealthy fats, excess sugar, white flour, excess salt, preservatives, food coloring, processed foods. Our bodies are simply not designed to digest this stuff. And I recently learned of the impact this has on the liver after years of consuming this type of stuff and why potentially it is so darn hard it feels impossible to drop fat!!! But it’s not all bad news, it is possible to rectify you will just need to understand that the fat loss process may not be as quick.
I do just need to point out here though that things like caffeine, alcohol, stress, pesticides, medications, and infections are also liver loaders so you may want to strongly consider reducing and if possible eliminating some or all of these (where possible obviously).
So what exactly is food? Any whole & real foods (including packaged foods that are just whole & real foods combined without the additives – they are out there!!) that will nourish your body with vitamins, minerals, fibre, quality carbohydrates, healthy fats, proteins, amino acids, phytonutrients, and antioxidants. These are what our bodies are designed to process. And the less work our liver has to do to process and detoxify all the rubbish outlined above the easier it will become for it to do it main purpose – to process the nutrients and send them to exactly where they need to go in your body (or out of the body).
I count quality nutrition shakes in the “food” category because they have all of what our bodies need. Remember, they are designed to SUPPORT good whole food eating and are a great opportunity to boost your intake of fruits and vegetables which are great sources of antioxidants and fibre along with all the other beneficial nutrients.
They will improve your energy levels and start moving your bodies towards a state of wellness but let me be candid here – you’ll feel the benefits within the first few days but to really get it going and feel the maximum benefit you really need to be prepared to give it a good three months. Remember, your cells are regenerating all the time, the goal is to keep nourishing your body and moving it towards a state of wellness by giving it what it needs to regenerate healthy cells. So many of us just want a quick fix but to be perfectly blunt, we got ourselves into these states over a period of YEARS, it is unrealistic to expect quick changes. It won’t take years and it will reverse quicker than it happened but it will take time and CONSISTENCY is key.
