Do you try to lose weight only to find after a week or two nothing is happening? Or worse…you complete a diet, get to the body weight you want only to put it all back on again? And more?
The other day I heard Dr Libby talk about reframing the way we think about this. It’s no longer about losing weight to be healthy. What if we looked at weight loss as “we need to be healthy to lose weight…”?
Take some time to reflect on that…
Our bodies need vitamins, minerals, fibre, quality carbohydrates, healthy fats, protein, amino acids, phytonutrients, and antioxidants.
But what most people are consuming are unhealthy fats, excess sugar, white flour, excess salt, preservatives, food coloring.
And nowhere near enough fruits and vegetables. Do you consume at least 7 servings a day? (2 fruit & 5 vegetables – the shakes are great, I use them as an opportunity to get my fruits and veges in)
Our bodies simply aren’t designed to process what most of us are consuming!! Is it any wonder that so many of us are in a state of inflammation and dis-ease and our bodies aren’t functioning efficiently and optimally?
The body is amazing but like a car if we don’t feed it the fuel it requires (real whole foods) and give it something of lesser quality (processed junk, refined sugar) it won’t work the way it is supposed to. And that includes losing weight.
We can cause damage to our bodies (over time as a result of the Compound Effect) by what we choose to put in them so sometimes we first have to move our bodies into a state of wellness before our body before it will do what we want it to (like lose weight). It needs to feel safe to use fat as a fuel.
In my opinion, the best way to do this is through nutrition. Good real whole foods SUPPORTED by good quality shakes and supplements. Remember, we can’t get everything we need from food alone so the shakes just help us to know we are getting what we need consistently.
When we are consistently nourishing our bodies with good real whole foods then, (over a period of time because remember, it took a period of time to put our bodies into its current state) it stands to reason that we are going to start regenerating better quality cells. Efficient, optimal, fully functioning cells.
Everyone is different, so while one person may seem to shed weight instantly, another person may take a little longer for their body to get back into a position where it feels safe to use use fat as a fuel. Consistency is key.
The focus is nourishing our bodies.
